Family shares ‘beautiful experience’ of delivering baby girl at LAMC
September 18, 2024
Four months pregnant with her second child when her family moved from Rhode Island to White Rock earlier this year, Lisa Gagnon immediately started exploring women’s health services in the area. She quickly found the right fit for her just minutes from home at Los Alamos Medical Center.
Fast forward to today, and Lisa and her husband are the proud parents of a healthy baby girl, Claire, who was delivered at LAMC on Sept. 7th. The family had only positive things to say about their 5-star experience at the hospital, ranging from the private rooms to the personalized care of OB/GYN Dr. Sharon Ransom to the compassion and expertise shown by the nursing staff.
“We had a beautiful experience,” Lisa said. “I would definitely recommend it.”
In particular, Lisa thanked the standout care provided by the OB nurses under the guidance of Unit Director Dana Melton, RN, as well as the amazing support from Lactation Consultant Gretchen Poulson. Along with Dr. Ransom, these team members worked to meet what Lisa wanted for the delivery experience, all while offering emotional support and an attitude of “anything you need, we can help you out.”
“The nurses were cool, calm and confident. The ratio of care is just unbelievable,” Lisa said, describing how greatly the experience differed from delivering her first child at a large teaching hospital on the East Coast.
In addition to the personal attention coming from a highly skilled and tight-knit group of caregivers, Lisa was also very grateful that she did not have to worry about driving down the hill in the middle of the night – particularly considering how fast some deliveries can be.
Lisa encourages women to remember the women’s health services offered at LAMC and to consider touring the hospital’s birthing unit to familiarize themselves with the staff, providers and facility.
“Labor and delivery at LAMC was a great choice for our family. As a second-time mom, I felt more confident in what to expect during the birth process and how to advocate for my preferences when feasible,” she said. “I felt that we were able to get what we needed in town even with the slightly higher risk factor of my advanced maternal age.”
The caring and knowledgeable staff of LAMC’s Family Birthing Center and Special Care Nursery are comprised of a Board-certified neonatologist, neonatal nurse practitioners, and a highly qualified nursing staff. The unit features eight private rooms, including four LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum) rooms that offer a warm, home-like atmosphere, and a Special Care Nursery.
