Los Alamos Medical Center Names 2024 Mercy Award Winner
May 1, 2024
LOS ALAMOS, NM (May 1, 2024) – Los Alamos Medical Center is proud to announce that Jacqui Carroll has been recognized as the facility’s 2024 Mercy Award winner. The Mercy Award recognizes one employee from each of Lifepoint Health’s facilities who profoundly touches the lives of others and best represents the spirit and values on which the company was founded. Jacqui and other facility nominees were recognized at a wonderful celebration at the hospital on April 30th.
Established in 2001, the Mercy Award is an annual recognition program that honors the life and contributions of Scott Mercy, Lifepoint’s founding chairman and chief executive officer. The award is considered the highest honor a Lifepoint employee can receive.
“At Los Alamos Medical Center, we are committed to advancing Lifepoint’s mission of making communities healthier, and our devoted team members are critical to this work – especially Jacqui,” said Tracie Stratton, CEO of Los Alamos Medical Center. “We are so proud to recognize her positive contributions to improving the overall health of our patients and staff, supporting their families, and serving our community. Jacqui always goes the extra mile to meet any need that may arise and is a true champion of our caring culture at LAMC. She is a true credit to our facility and community.”
Jacqui started working at LAMC in November of 2000 as the Quality Assistant. She moved into the HR Department and in 2003 was promoted to Human Resources Director – a title she proudly holds to this day.
“Jacqui has a sense of compassion and caring that goes beyond the responsibilities of her position,” Stratton said. “There are many examples and times when Jacqui has gone above and beyond to care for staff members in times of need. Jacqui’s reputation in the facility is strong. She is known as a resource staff trust and will go to when problems arise.”
After the tragic death of an employee last year, Jacqui brought food to the department, provided resources and general sympathy. She also assisted in the planning of the employee’s memorial and helped his mother with the myriad aspects in dealing with his death. More recently, her actions during a very difficult situation resulted in the opening of a visitor’s room for the families of ED patients to stay during extreme circumstances. These examples show Jacqui’s boundless compassion, caring and ability to make deep-rooted connections.
Outside the walls of the hospital, her community work also illustrates her compassion to help those in need. She has served on the Board of the Casa Mesita Group Home, a residential facility that provides habilitation services and treatment to children diagnosed with mental health illness and intellectual disabilities. Jacqui has also volunteered for Self Help, Inc., an organization dedicated to supporting those in need, and she also is currently a member of the Booster Club for the Odyssey of the Mind team at Aspen Elementary School, a program that helps children become college, career and citizenship ready through hands-on creative problem solving, teamwork and grit.
Also nominated and celebrated at Los Alamos Medical Center were Erika Cordova, RT, Pulmonary Clinic; Sara Sena, RN, Inpatient Supervisor; and Claudette Cordova, US/RVT Tech, Imaging.
Each facility winner, including Jacqui, will be considered for Lifepoint’s 2024 companywide Mercy Award. The companywide winner will be announced this summer and honored during a ceremony in Nashville, Tenn., in August.
