March 21, 2024
(Los Alamos, NM – March 21, 2024) – Los Alamos Medical Center today published its community benefit report for the 2023 calendar year. This annual report outlines the various ways the hospital is working to support the health and economic vitality of Los Alamos and beyond as part of its mission of making communities healthier®.
“As a leading healthcare provider in Northern New Mexico, Los Alamos Medical Center is committed to providing high-quality care close to home, investing in our region’s overall well-being and making a positive impact on those we serve,” said Tracie Stratton, chief executive officer (CEO) of LAMC. “This year’s report highlights our continued efforts to provide compassionate care – both inside and outside our hospital walls.”
Los Alamos Medical Center’s 2023 community benefit report highlights its continued efforts to meet the growing healthcare needs of its community through welcoming new providers, adding and expanding service lines and continually investing in its facilities and healthcare technology. For example, in 2023, the hospital added 38 providers in specialties including behavioral health, telecardiology, emergency medicine, neurology, OB/GYN, family medicine, and pulmonology and sleep medicine; and made nearly $1.5 million in capital improvements. This year’s investments included a PFT machine for pulmonology, an echocardiography machine and the facility’s new telecardiology program.
Additionally, Los Alamos Medical Center made a donation of more than $4.2 million in health services to those in need, demonstrating its continuous commitment to ensuring everyone has access to care, regardless of their ability to pay.
LAMC is also devoted to creating environments where providers want to practice and employees want to work. In 2023, the hospital distributed $24.5 million in salaries, wages and benefits for its approximately 235 employees, while contributing more than $77,000 in professional development and tuition assistance so all its employees can have the opportunity to learn, grow and improve the care they provide their patients.
Last year, the organization paid $3.18 million in local and state taxes, while also continuing its support of local activities and organizations committed to serving the region, including:
- Community Flu Shot Drive
- Giving Tree For Local Families
- Halloweekend
- Heart Health Expo at Los Alamos National Laboratory
- Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce
- Los Alamos MainStreet
- Los Alamos Public Schools
- Los Alamos Summer Concert Series
- Multiple Avenues for Successful Healthcare (MASH) Program
- New Mexico Excellence in Nursing
- Odyssey of the Mind
- New Mexico Cancer Society Sweetheart Auction

“We are proud to call Los Alamos and Northern New Mexico our home, and we feel incredibly grateful for the continued support of all those who entrust us with their care. Our success would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of our providers, employees and volunteers,” said Stratton. “As we look ahead to the future, we are so excited to continue improving the ways we serve our neighbors and communities.”
