Jennifer Vigil, MD
Jennifer Vigil, MD, has joined Medical Associates of Northern New Mexico in the practice of Internal Medicine. Dr. Vigil received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, magna cum laude, with a second major in Spanish, from the University of New Mexico in 1999. She completed her medical degree at UNM in 2006, and recently finished her residency there, as well.
A multiple award winner during her undergraduate studies, Dr. Vigil received the UNM School of Medicine Institute for Public health grant funded by the National Institutes of Health, the National Center on Minority Health & Health Disparities, Endowment for Studies of Health Disparities grant for hantavirus research. She was also a recipient of the Los Alamos Medical Society Scholarship from 2002 through 2004.
Dr. Vigil’s medical school student research projects include “Humoral Immune Response During the Acute & Convalescent Phase of Hantavirus Infection in Chilean Children,” as mentored by Dianne Goade, MD.
As a volunteer, she began a study involving convalescent pediatric patients after acute infection with Andes virus (hantavirus) in Chile. As part of the project she met with children infected with the virus and then developed a brochure for 2nd grade children teaching them about risk factors for the virus.
